Music production proposal template

A complete proposal you can send after filling in the brackets. Copy the text or download the PDF, then make it yours.

Make it yours before sending

  1. Replace every [bracket] with the client's real details. Search for "[" to catch them all.
  2. Set real prices in the investment tiers, and cut to one option if tiers do not fit the job.
  3. Rewrite "Understanding your goals" in the client's own words from your call. It is the section they read closest.
  4. Delete anything that does not apply. A shorter, true proposal beats a longer, generic one.

Music production proposal

Music production proposal prepared for [Client Company]

1. About this proposal

Prepared for [Client Company] by [Your Name], [Date].

Thank you for considering me to produce [project: your EP / a custom track for your brand]. This proposal covers how we get from the reference sound in your head to finished, mastered audio, with the rights and credits agreed before the first session instead of argued after the release.

2. Understanding your goals

[Artist / Client Company] needs [describe: an EP of [number] tracks produced, a custom track for [campaign / content], production and mixing for recorded vocals] with a sound like [reference tracks or artists].

The music needs to be finished and mastered by [date], with [stems / instrumentals / clean versions] delivered so you can use it everywhere you need it.

3. My process, step by step

  1. Phase 1, Direction. We build a shared reference playlist and agree the sound: tempo, instrumentation, energy, and the moments that matter. Everything after this is measured against these references.
  2. Phase 2, Production. I produce the arrangement and send a demo of each track for direction feedback while the track is still clay, not marble.
  3. Phase 3, Mix. Once the arrangement is approved, I mix each track with [2] rounds of revisions, working from your timestamped notes.
  4. Phase 4, Master and delivery. Approved mixes are mastered for [streaming / sync / broadcast], and you receive masters, instrumentals, and stems, organized and labeled.

4. What is included

  • [Number] produced, mixed, and mastered tracks
  • Stems and instrumental versions for every track
  • [2] mix revision rounds per track from consolidated notes
  • Masters delivered in [WAV 24-bit and streaming-ready formats]
  • [Clean / radio edit] versions where needed
  • Session archives kept for [12] months

5. What is not included

  • Vocal recording studio hire (I can recommend rooms and engineers)
  • Distribution, playlist pitching, and marketing
  • Clearance of samples or interpolations you supply (warranted cleared by you)

8. Why work with me

  • Direction is locked against reference tracks, so feedback is 'more like reference B here' instead of vibes
  • Feedback happens at the demo stage, where changes cost hours instead of remixes
  • Stems always included, so you are never locked out of your own music

9. Terms in plain English

Rights are agreed here, not assumed: [full ownership transfers on final payment as work for hire / I retain [X%] of master royalties and production credit as 'Produced by [name]']. Each of us warrants that the material we bring (vocals, samples, interpolations) is cleared or original, and each is responsible for what we supply. Credit as [credit line] in releases and metadata [is / is not] required.
